MACS The Megavoltage Acceptance and Commissioning Service (MACS) is an independent organisation able to provide services, support and advice on the Purchase, Acceptance, Commissioning and Quality Control of X-ray and electron beam radiotherapy treatment machines.

John A Mills

John A Mills graduated in Physics from Strathclyde University, Glasgow in 1975. After 5 years in industry he began a career in Medical Physics, obtaining a PhD in Nuclear Cardiac Tomographic Imaging from Warwick University in 1987. In 1985 he began an extensive career in Radiotherapy Physics with particular emphasis on treatment machine engineering, performance and quality control. He has contributed chapters to and co-edited radiotherapy physics texts as well as acting as an examiner for the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine and a representative on the British Standards Committee for radiotherapy technology. He has been involved with medical physics research throughout his career and in 2000 became an honorary research fellow with CTAC at Coventry University. As Radiotherapy Physics Manager at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire he contributed to several projects with the CTAC group. He now undertakes consultancy work in Radiotherapy Physics with particular emphasis on treatment machine commissioning, quality control and teaching.
